This guide solves the following problems:
You can't hear any sound from your Microsoft Windows PC. Using a logical approach to this problem, there can only be 2 areas where the problem can be located. Hardware and software.
Hardware Diagnostic: - Make sure your speakers are ON, with the volume turned up, plugged into the wall or have working batteries.
- Also make sure the speakers jack is plugged into the GREEN audio jack on the back of your sound card. If you have of those soundcards that don't have color-coded jacks, you're going to have to read the manual or try all of them.
Software Diagnostic:
- Verify soundcard device is installed and working properly and that there are no conflicts with it. Right-Click My Computer and click on "Properties". Then click on the Hardware TAB, and then click on Device Manager. Check and see if you have any yellow question mark or yellow exclamation mark signs. If you do, that means you have hardware improperly installed. Either the wrong driver was an installed or the driver installation never finish. Basically means something is not installed. If you see a red "X", that means something was disabled. Right-click the device and enable, it could be your soundcard.
- Make sure the right-sound devices are selected. Go to Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices. Check to make sure nothing is muted and the volume is turned up. Click on the "Audio" TAB, and make sure the right audio devices are selected. Some people have the audio going to the headphones or some other random device. A common audio device name is like Creative, or SB Live Audio, or Realtek 97. There are many other audio devices out there, I only listed a few. - Make sure the volume is up and nothing is muted. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume Control While in here, make sure nothing is muted and turn up the volume. - *This is for those with soundcards built-into their motherboards* - If nothing else seems to work, go into your BIOS.... that's usually by hitting the DEL or F1 or F2 keys when you first turn your computer on, then look for your soundcard settings. It's usually in the integrated peripherals or audio section and make sure it's ENABLED! I hope this guide works and covers everything. If you think more should be added, please let me know! Thanks!
