Myspace has had a fun run. It quickly climbed up the traffic rankings of Alexa by attracting massive users. Its social networking and SEXUAL appeal was strong enough to convert many non-computer-using teens to actually become computer users. Facebook however has been forecasted by many to over-take Myspace...but how?
I'll reveal some obvious and also not so obvious reasons...
We'll start with Facebook
OPEN-SOURCED CODE - This is the biggest one. Facebook's code is open allowing other developers to create great new advantages.interactive applications for every kind of person and "need". This is the part where Facebook reaches far beyond Myspace's glorified picture profile by allowing for new creative ways for users to interact with each other in a way other than viewing photos and leaving comments.
SPAM PROTECTION - I have yet to be spammed by Facebook. No annoying comments about free ringtones, money scams, or profile trackers. Facebook clearly has better security against spammers.
ADVANCED PHOTO MANAGEMENT - Facebook allows you a whole series of options that MySpace is quickly moving to copy. You can assign names to people in your photos which links people to other profiles. You can send photos from one person to another even if they aren't yours. You can post photos to other people's profile. You can upload photos easier, the compression tool seems superior to the one used by MySpace but MySpace is quickly catching up in this aspect.
IMPROVED PROFILE MANAGEMENT - You can leave comments for yourself and talk to others. You can arrange the order of applications in your profile and hide of arrange things however you like.
IMPROVED FRIEND MANAGEMENT - Facebook tracks your relationships better and reminds you who is who.
Myspace is not without its advantages. Currently, it still has a bigger userbase and more traffic. Myspace is also faster than Facebook for the most part. It also allows people to view other people's profiles anonymously.
I'll update this article as I use Facebook more.
