19" LCD MONITORS for $199!! Are they WORTH the savings? Print E-mail

Read this to see if you should buy one of these too-good-to-be-true deals today.

This is one of those things where the old saying, "You get what you pay for holds true." You will find tons of sales and after-rebate sales for 19" LCD monitors costing as low as $139.99 after rebates. The truth is that they are worth just that. Low contrast, low brightness, slow refresh rates cause a watery effect on movies and games. The vibrancy and clarity is off, and the pictures will look a little faded or too much red or yellow. The toughest thing about these monitors is that they are often made by generic branded manufacturers. The thing I hate the most about many small companies is their lack of customer service and low warranty lengths. The standard is 3 year for parts, labor, and backlight. Even if you do happy to find a brand new 19" LCD monitor selling for only $199 but you had an extra $99 to buy a better one, which would you pick?

Just remember that it's cheap for a reason and the cheap option is the most expensive option.
