Fixing the Missing CD-ROM Drive Problem Print E-mail
Wednesday, 06 June 2007
Here's a quick tip for those who have come across this common computer problem:

Basically, you go into My Computer in Windows XP, Vista, 2000, ME, or 98, and find that one of your cd-rom drives icon is missing.

The easy computer repair fix? Simple, it usually either requires a system restart OR had something to do with a change that you made to the system last. In my experience it almost always had to do with the most recently installed program. For some reason, no surprisingly, it's also multimedia software for audio or video work like codecs or editing programs that always cause this computer problem. Simply go into your Control Panel and go to Add-Remove programs and start uninstalling programs from your computer from most recently installed to least recently installed programs. Eventually, you will find the software that's causing the cd-rom drive to disappear. Goodluck!
