This is an easy fix for those who have used Microsoft Windows XP Home or Professional and have gotten the annoying XXXXX is not accessible. Access is denied error message when trying to copy files and folders from another hard drive...
The problem is that the other drives are locked from the old Windows XP operating system and user. What you'll have to do is take over permissions.
First open up ANY folder in Windows Explorer, and go to Tools > Folder Options. Then click on the View TAB and scroll all the way to the bottom where you see "Use simple file sharing. (Recommended)". Now UN-CHECK this box, and then click APPLY and OK.
Next, right-click the folder or hard drive you are trying to copy and move files from and click on the Security Tab. Click ADVANCED. From here, you can use the Inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects. Include these with entries explicitly defined here CHECKBOX and give your current computer user or Everybody permissions rights, ownership, and access to the files. I hope this helps. Enjoy!
