Setup cannot continue because a required file is either corrupted or not available. Print E-mail
Tuesday, 18 March 2008
Here's my official fix for the installation, upgrade, or uninstall problem where you can't get rid of Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate Version or any of the other versions.

Setup cannot continue because a required file is either corrupted or not available. Run Setup again from original source disc or download location.

Most people are getting this problem because they are using an un-licensed copy of Microsoft Office 2007.

The fix? Easy go to this Microsoft page here, and download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility Package and use that to remove all traces of Microsoft Office 2007 from your system.

After you've done that, simply reboot your computer and install a licensed version if you have one. Goodluck!

Quick Update:

Some of you who are trying to install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility Package on 32-bit Windows Vista machines might encounter an Error message:

Script
c:/users/admin/appdata/local/temp/Ixpooo.tmp/startmsi.vbs
line 17
char 1
error permission denied
code 8000046
source Microsoft VBScript runtime error.

If you get something like that, all you have to do is RIGHT-CLICK the installer file and "Run as Administrator". If you are  unable to find an icon afterwards to run the file, simply go to your "C:\Program Files\Windows Installer Cleanup\"  directory to run the program.

I have been receiving this error as well, i downloaded the Windows Installer Cleanup utility and did not find any traces of previous versions of Office. I freshly formatted my computer and had successfully installed the office pack before the format.
do you guys have any idea what could be going on here

I'm scared

I dont want to run the windows installer cleanup utility because it might uninstall photoshop and lightroom and a bunch of other programs i need!
When you open it, it has the list. with a remove button, but is that remove the program, OR, remover from the uninstal list??

I dont want to move forward with it, i just want to get rid of office. help :(

It realy works!

Another possible fix, or problem
written by Adrian, January 30, 2010

In my case the cleanup utility was not the fix. I had an official Office DVD, but my Blu-Ray DVD ROM (new HP laptop) was not able to read on of the cab files on the install disc. I took the disc to another computer and copied the files onto an external hard drive, then installed Office from the external hard drive with no issues. You can check if this is your problem by just trying to copy your install disc to a temp folder on your computer. If it fails somewhere along the way, it's a read error from the DVD.

Fixed for me

New DVD-RW drive appeared to be the culprit, switched em out and office installed fine on another.
