Windows VS Mac - Which is better? |

My take on Microsoft Windows versus Apple OS X. Another look at an
old question in the rivalry among these two popular operating
systems.
Which operating system is better?
It's an old question but people will forever wonder and ask that
question again and again.
What is better you ask? Well, it depends on what you consider
"better"? Many people often start by measuring by benchmarks
claiming that one is "faster" or "safer". Is that truly accurate?
Maybe safety is not such a big problem if you don't use the
internet. Or what's the point of being safe if you can't use a
program that you need?
Lucky for us, both PC's and Mac's run on the same Intel hardware
nowadays so there's no such thing as one being faster than the
other. Even if there was a difference, it would be more or less
negligible. Both machines use different programs and different
versions of programs and are built to attract different users so
comparing speed is going to be very difficult.
I define "better" as being more useful. If it's more useful to
you, it is better even if it is superior in capability. Absolute
functionality rules in my opinion.
Below is a quick list of IMPORTANT pro's and con's for both
operating systems.
Microsoft Windows
pro's:
- has more programs than anything
- is the standard making it easier and cheaper to find software,
hardware, and support
- can be just as safe as Mac if you follow simple steps to secure
your PC
- hardware is cheaper than Mac because it is built by many
different vendors all competing against each other
- has many good standard programs for working with multimedia
- supports all games
con's:
- security can easily be compromised if you don't follow safety
steps
- relatively easy to corrupt operating system
- is the target of most viruses and spyware
- cannot run all the industry-chosen multimedia software that is
made only for Mac
-
MAC OS X
pro's:
- looks nice
- relatively stable system
- harder for computer-illiterate people to mess up
- proprietary hardware is standardized making it easier to
troubleshoot/repair
- Apple software work very well together
- you can still run Windows XP or Vista from this machine
- tons of good multimedia software and design...it's almost the
standard in the industry
- has most of the popular PC games
con's:
- expensive proprietary hardware
- can't play all games that are released for PC
- doesn't support many free useful little utilities
- not the standard, cost more to find expert help
- replacement parts are not easily-interchangeable and not easily
found
So overall, the best computer for you is the one that runs all the
programs you need. It has nothing to do with which one is cheaper,
stronger, longer-lasting, safer, faster, or "cooler".
The best choice is the one that makes you the most productive!
